University of Texas students, condom maker’s pledge reminds to get consent before sex

Last month, we reported that 15 percent of University of Texas undergraduate women surveyed said they had been raped since they became a student. The University called it “a wakeup call.” Movies like “The Hunting Ground” and Title IX lawsuits against campuses made a lot of people wake up to what had been happening on college campuses for a long time. (You can find the movie on Netflix if you haven’t watched it, and watch it with your college-age and high school girls and boys).

This week I also found this statistic: 40 percent of sexually active high-schoolers did not use a condom the last time they had sex.

Next week, Trojan — yes, the condom manufacturer — will be at UT asking students to take a pledge as part of the Consent. Ask For It. campaign. Students will be outside the West Mall Tuesday talking to their fellow students about taking the pledge.

Condoms and consent are a good things.

Trojan’s Consent. Ask for It. program comes to the University of Texas Tuesday.

How do you ask for consent? This Planned Parenthood video has some good tips:
